Intoduction

There are two gods in Lineage. God of all evil - Grankain and god of everything good Einhasad. The chaotic temple located east from the gludin town belongs to the evil Grankain, you may learn all spells with chaotic alignment there. The lawful temple located in the elven forest belongs to the good Einhasad, you may learn all lawful lignment spells there. All neutral alignment spells can be learned at either the chaotic or lawful temple. You may check spell's alignement by looking at the spell list here or in the game by pressing F1 and selecting 'magic related' topic.

Level of Magic

Magic is a magor elemental of any RPG. In Lineage all magic is divided into 10 level. Different class can learn diferent level of magic at a certain level respectively. Level 3 or below spell can be learnt from Gereng or Huron, while level 4 or above spell must be learnt by spell books in the temple. Notice, you may lose your spell when you die.

The following table give you an idea about which class can learn which level of magic at what level. NA = You cannot learn the magic.

Magic Power and Resistance

The power of magic is determined by your class and intellegent. There maybe some item later to improve your magic power as well. The effect of the magic si determined by adding the spell level and your own magic power. For magic resistance, Wisdom and your level is important. The more resistance of magic, the lesser damage from enemy's spell. Some item add resistnace bonus on player, for example elven shield and cloak of magic resistance. Also, shield of reflection is able to reflect any magic that look like beam. For example, energy bolt.

Attribute of Magic

Each magic has different attribute. Some of them are neutral. But the otehr is divided into four categories: Water, Fire, Earth and Air. Moreover, Water is opposite of Fire, and Soil is opposite of Wind. By casting a magic to someone that has different attribute is more effective. However, cast magic that has same attribute as target may reduce the efficientcy, perhaps even cause the opposite effect. For example, casting a fireball spell on a Fire Dragon (only an example, there is no Fire Dragon in game yet) may actually heal your target. Casting lightning (Wind) on stone golem (soil) is more effective.

Alignment of magic

Same as PC and NPC, magic has alignment as well. Casting Neutral spell will have no effect on your alignment. Casting Lawful spell will change your alignment to lawful, and same applies to casting Chaotic spell. The alignmental effect is calculated by square of the spell level. Moreover, casting spell which has the same alignment as the caster will be more effective. On the other hand, casting spell which has oppsoite alignment as caster will be less effective. Moreover, the alignment of magic decide where you can learn your magic from spell book. Your spell book will vanish if you bring it to the wrong temple. For example, to learn greater heal you need to bring it to Lawful Temple, while bringing it to Neutral or Chaotic temple will not work.

Magic Type

There are 8 types of spells: Heal, Bestow, Attack, Life, Death, Control, Curse, Transform. Some items raise one specific type of magic or negates it. There are also monsters who are more or less resistant to a specific type of magic.

Teleport to anywhere randomly, similar effect of scroll of teleportation. You can control where to teleport if you wear ring of teleport control

Enchant Weapon Bestow Neutral 10/10 1 weapon 10 minutes
It enchants the weilding weapon of target by 2. The enchanted weapon is treated as magical weapon while the spell is effective.
Detection Control Neutral 8/0 Self Instant
Detects any hidden PC/NPC within screen.


Level 3

Kill undead monster instantly, have 5% chance of making monster berserk.
Extra Heal Heal Earth Lawful 13/0 1 PC/NPC Instant
Heal more HP. Will hurt undead monster.
Curse Blind Curse Chaotic 17/5 1 PC/NPC next to you 5 minutes
Make you blind, same as drinking opaque potion
Blessed Armor Bestow Neutral 20/0 1 armor 10 minutes
Gives addentional -3 ac to target. Effect is not cumumlative.

Reduce speed of enemy. Require 1 magic gem.


Level 5

Heal more HP than normal heal.

Charms the target and makes it follow caster's order with certain probability. The probability increases as the target's hp decreases. Some monsters are immune to this spell. Consumes two 'magic gem'.
Remove Curse Life Air Lawful 25/0 1 PC instant
Remove all curse from target.

Inflicts damage on the target and traps the target in the ice. The target in the Ice can do nothing but is not subject to external attacks.
Summon Monster Control Earth Chaotic 50/30 Caster 1 hour
Summons 2 to 8 monsters. They will listen to the caster as with tamed monster. Your spell power decides what monster you will get. Require 3 magic gems.
Holy Circle Attack Lawful 45/10 ? 5 min

Tornado Attack Air Neutral 40/20 Self Instant
4 tornado attack hurts all enemy within 3 tiles of caster. It is weaker than it looks, though.


Level 8

Creates the firewall between the target and caster. PCs or NPCs in the Firewall takes damage from the heat. The duration increases as spell power.
Bizzard Attack water Chaotic 60/10 All enemy in screen Instant
Calls the freezing blizzard and inflicts damage on the target.
Invisibility Transform Neutral 60/60 Self Permanent
Become invisible, similar effect to cloak of invisibility.
Resurrection Life Lawful 50/0 1 PC/NPC Instant
Resurrect a dead monster or player, similar to velox scroll but with full hp recovered as well.

Induces the slumber to PCs and NPCs within two tiles from the target. Sleeping creatures awake if attacked.
Immune to Harmness Transform Lawful 80/50 Self/pledge 30 minutes
Targets take only 50% of harm for duration.
Shape Change Transform Curse Neutral 60/30 1 PC/NPC 1 hour
Shapechanges (polymorph) the target for the duration with certain probability.

Inflicts tremendous damage on the target. Ultimate destruction magic which uses the power of Good God.
